Driver Identified in Saturday Morning Crash
Great Neck man charged with driving while impaired and possession of marijuana.
Police have identified the driver of the BMW SUV that collided with a Dom's Tree Service truck early Saturday morning on Port Washington Boulevard. The crash, which caused serious traffic delays into the afternoon, was apparently the result of a drug and alcohol binge, police officials said.
The driver of the BMW SUV, O'neil C. Hyman of Great Neck, was reportedly exceeding a speed of 100 mph at around 7:15 that morning, and police said he was under the influence of both drugs and alcohol. Police said Hyman is being charged with driving while impaired by a combination of drugs and alcohol (1192-4a), driving after having consumed alcohol while under the age of 21 (1192-a) and unlawful possession of marijuana (Penal Law 221.05).
According to police officials, Hyman was admitted to North Shore LIJ's North Shore University Hospital's Intensive Care Unit on Saturday morning with serious fractures to both legs and wrists, and underwent a series of operations. His hospital room is under police surveillance due to his pending arrest following his release from the hospital. North Shore University Hospital officials said he is currently in stable condition.

"It took about a half hour and two fire department crews to extricate him from his vehicle," said Port Washington Fire Chief Thomas McDonough about Hyman, who was freed from the BMW SUV with the Jaws of Life. McDonough added that in the carnage of the crash, the vehicle was almost unrecognizable.
Dominick D'Alonzo, the owner of Dom's Tree Service, said he hopes his business isn't affected by the accident. "My truck is severely damaged, but not totaled." he said. "However, without that truck in use, I am certainly going to be losing business. It's a distress for me, but we will see what happens. Hopefully, this whole thing can be resolved."
