Glen Cove Man Charged in Flower Hill Attempted Burglary, Uniondale Incident

A Glen Cove man was arrested Wednesday in Mineola for an attempted burglary in August in Flower Hill and reckless endangerment in April in Uniondale, Nassau Police say.

Detectives say that on Aug. 27, 2013, at 2:24 a.m., Rashawn Bellamy, 26, of 1438 Avalon Square, tried to enter a T-Mobile at 1073 Northern Blvd. in Flower Hill, by prying open a rear door. When police arrived, he fled on foot, leaving behind a 2009 Porsche that he was driving.  

Then, on Wednesday, April 9 at 12:35 a.m., police attempted to pull over Bellamy, who was driving a 2011 BMW, in a routine traffic stop on Earle Ovington Blvd. in Uniondale. As police approached the vehicle, Bellamy sped away in an unsafe manner, leaving them in danger of being struck, according to detectives. There was a high speed chase, with officers ending the pursuit.

On Wednesday, April 16, at 10 a.m., detectives located and arrested Bellamy behind 262 Old Country Road in Mineola.

Bellamy is charged with third-degree attempted burglary, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operations of a vehicle, in addition to several traffic violations.

He is to be arraigned on Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
