Kaiman Provides Storm Update

311 call center open thru Sunday; highway crews operating thru tomorrow clearing snow.

North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman provided the following storm update Friday evening:

The snow and wind are creating hazardous conditions and will continue to do so through tomorrow afternoon. We are asking all residents to park their cars in driveways if possible in order to enable our trucks to better clear the roads throughout the storm event. We are also asking that you shovel snow away from fire hydrants on your property if you are able to do so.

The Town’s 311 call center is open and will remain open throughout the night and remain open all day tomorrow and Sunday as well. Please call 311 if you have any questions or concerns throughout the storm event.

Town highway crews will also be operating tonight and through tomorrow clearing snow and removing downed trees blocking our roads and thoroughfares. If you live in an unincorporated part of the town and the storm causes any damage to your home tonight or tomorrow please call 311. Buildings Department personnel are available if you need immediate assistance.  Immediate restoration will be authorized by the Buildings Department although photo documentation is requested.

If you have electric wires and trees down on your street, the town will work directly with the utility personnel to clear the wires and remove the trees or, if you are in a village, will notify the village and the utility of your concern. Please to not touch any fallen utility wires yourself.
