NorthShoreAlert: Prepare for Irene

The communication system for Port Washington and Manhasset sent tips to local residents and businesses.

At 11:41 a.m., NorthShoreAlert, a mass notification system, sent out a Hurricane Irene update to residents and businesses in Port Washington and Manhasset who signed up for the service. To register, visit NorthShoreAlert.org.

This is the message:

This storm is currently tracking through Long Island with landfall for this coming Sunday.
 While we hope the track will change, authorities recommend that you prepare just in case.
 There is potential for very heavy rains, winds, and storm surges.
 RESIDENTS IN LOW LYING AREAS SHOULD BE PARTICULARY AWARE. Due to trees falling, power outages could be extensive and prolonged.
