NorthShoreAlert: Shelter Opening At Schreiber, Tuesday 6 p.m.

School closed Wednesday.

NorthShoreAlert, the mass communication system, issued this alert at 3:22 p.m. on Tuesday.

This is an Tuesday afternoon update.
- We have received concerns about drinking water. The Water Districts have reported that the water is safe to drink. (People may have heard media reports about water issues on the South Shore.)  This does not apply to us.

- Schreiber HS is being opened as a shelter at around 6pm today if you need one. It is a limited-staffed facility.
- LIPA update: LIPA is working first on major infrastucture including substantions and transmission lines. They told us that their linesmen will be filtering into communities over next few days depending on the status of the substations that serve that area. It is not clear when we will have restoration.  Some estimates are at least 7 days but please understand there is no precision in these estimates at this point. It might be fewer then 7 days or might be much longer that that.
- Port Washington Schools are CLOSED tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct 31, 2012.  They are unable to send a message on their own at this time. Please pass this information to other families with school-aged children.
