Manorhaven is not flooded. Lot's of trees down and no power.
bayman October 30, 2012 at 09:58 PM
Manhasset Bay Marina had no damage to marina water never came over the bulkhead. Great place to keep your boat, they tied every boat down and took care of their liveaboards. Experance counts.

Hi, does anyone know if you can drive into manorhaven? I would like to check on my place on hickory rd. Was that area flooded?
Kim Ilardi October 31, 2012 at 12:13 PM
Hi Steve - my father-in-law just drove into the neighborhood this morning and was able to get to Graywood Road with very little problems. He said that it's a "war zone" on Searingtown and Port Blvd with lots of downed trees and wires, but he was able to get into Manorhaven via Middle Neck Road and then drove back on Shore Road and he said both were clear. He checked out our basement and saw no evidence of water. I'm not sure about our neighbors' homes that have a history of flooding. Good luck and let us know how you do getting in!

Toms Point marina is fine not sure about the condos. Lamottas is fine. Haven Marina almost lost two barges but they got saved with no major damage. 3rd ave is fine but evidence of minor flooding in the new house closest to the bay. The water went across the street. Businesses in the area of the harbor ie Louie's were flooded but should still be able to function after a lot of cleanup. Muncey Park is a disaster! Trees down smashed cars smashed houses, everyone in a daze. The only area with power seems to be Roslyn.

No power at Toms Point now. Good news from what I hear is water didn't come over the seawall. This is what OEM sent out at 515. <<-LIPA reports progress on substations. Hope to have them most up Friday but there is damage to the transmission lines coming into one of the substations serving the peninsula. We will report back as more info available. After repaired, then they will be able to begin to work out in the communities. Additional manpower resources from off-Long Island coming in. -LIPA has reports of fake-repairmen asking to enter homes. LIPA has no reason to enter any homes. -PW Shelter now converted to a community center for charging phones and warmth. No more loaner equipment needed. -Manhasset HS shelter remains open for those need warmth, food, and place to sleep. -PW Schreiber HS to host Halloween party for young children tonight from 6pm in cafeteria. Lots of candy!Movies. Must be accompanied by an adult. -Understand that LIRR has restored limited service on PW line through Great Neck only. This info has not been confirmed. That is all for now. Was at the coops at Toms Point at 2 PM today and all is secure, no water came over the sea wall at all, basements are dry, but no power and therefore no heat.

Hi Kim, Thanks for your reply. I made my way to my apt in Manorhaven today from brooklyn where I am staying with relatives and was very glad to see all is well except for lack of power. As you said I had to bypass searingtown road but except for no traffic lights was pretty much an easy trip. Looks like no gas stations operating or businesses in pw. Whole foods was closed. To be honest being so close to the water I feel like it is a miracle we did not get flooded especially seeing how so many other shore communities were devestated.

Lani! It is good to see your note. Power to much of Manorhaven is restored. Hope all is well with you.

Is Manhasset High School still open as a shelter?
Suzanne Drda November 04, 2012 at 03:01 PM
Does anyone know is power was restored in the New Salem area..Birch St/Roxbury Rd?
Steven Adler November 05, 2012 at 12:33 PM
I took a drive down south to Long Beach yesterday. While we have no power, they have nothing left. Their streets are fully of sand. Their homes were full of seawater and sewage. Their furniture is piled in the streets. Their homes are condemned and must be demolished. National Guard patrol their streets in humvees, Nd black Hawk helicopters whirr overhead. It is a sad and surreal atmosphere that we in Port Washington have not experienced. Worth remembering while we wait for power to be restored that other neighbors have it far worse.
