A North New Hyde Park man was drunk behind the wheel with a 6-year-old girl riding in the back of his car early Saturday morning, police said.

Ravinder Chopra, 50, was stopped at a sobriety checkpoint located near the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and New Hyde Park Road in New Hyde Park at 12:37 a.m., police said.

Chopra was arrested without incident after "officers immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol and observed glassy blood shot eyes and slurred speech," police said.

The 6-year-old, a family friend of Chopra's, was unharmed and released to her mother at the scene, police said.

Chopra is charged with aggravated DWI, a felony under Leandra's Law, endangering the welfare of a child and tinted rear side windows. He was due to be arraigned on Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
