Police Warn of Phone Scams

Port Washington Police are warning of a phone scam in which individuals are issuing false statements to Nassau County residents, and tricking them to send money.

These "scammers" are posing as representatives of government agencies, utilities, organizations that issue prizes or kidnapped or arrested family members.

Police say legitimate agencies and companies will never call by phone and ask to be sent money by Green Dot MoneyPak, MoneyGram, Western Union, and other prepaid card or money transfer company.

Residents ask residents to report suspicious activity by calling 911.
