Port Washington Named Fourth Safest 'City' in New York

Waterfront community is praised for being 'welcoming and safe.'

Port Washington is the fourth safest “city” in New York, according to a recent report by SafeWise Security Systems.

The Salt Lake City-based home-security provider deemed Port Washington fourth among 50 New York cities, praising this North Shore enclave for its “unsurpassed waterfront lifestyle” as well as its “highly regarded public school district, vibrant downtown and a diverse citizenship.”

The report cited FBI’s 2011 Crime in the U.S. Report as well as the company’s own research since from the past two years.

Landmark on Main Street, in particular, was cited as one Port Washington's greatest "treasures" as a "thriving community center."

Topping the New York list is Floral Park, which is ranked the safest community. Also included are Glen Cove (number 7), Long Beach (10), Lynbrook (11), Rockville Centre (29) and Garden City (30).

SafeWise described Port Washington as “welcoming and safe,” adding that “no violent crimes at all were reported to law enforcement in 2011.”
