Bosworth Names Cindy Cardinal Chief of Staff

Bosworth names current legislative assistant to North Hempstead post worth $132,000 annually.

Town of North Hempstead Supervisor-elect Judi Bosworth (D-Great Neck) announced this week the appointment of Cindy Cardinal as her chief of staff effective Jan. 1.

Cardinal has served as Bosworth’s legislative assistant in the Nassau County Legislature for the past six years.

As chief of staff, Cardinal will oversee all functions of the supervisor’s office, supervise external affairs and community outreach, manage the collective bargaining agreement with CSEA, develop program and policy proposals and act as liaison to the town’s Business and Tourism Development Corporation.

Like three other appointments by Bosworth this week who currently are employed with the Nassau County Legislature, Cardinal will earn an annual salary of $132,000 next year — $1,000 less than that of the supervisor in 2014.

An attorney, Cardinal concentrated her practice in employment and labor law for more than 20 years, before joining Bosworth’s county staff.

Elected to three terms as a member of the Board of Education of the Manhasset School District, Cardinal is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Manhasset Public Library.

A 2013 North Hempstead Women's Roll of Honor honoree, Cardinal received her J.D. from the Benjamin Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University and her B.A. from Barnard College, Columbia University.

“Cindy Cardinal has been an invaluable member of my staff for the past six years. Her knowledge of our town, record of community service and professional experience will be tremendous assets to the Town of North Hempstead,” said Bosworth Monday.

Three of the four Bosworth appointments this week have served on school boards in Nassau County. Bosworth was a longtime school board member in Great Neck.

Cardinal served on the Manhasset school board with Aline Khatchadourian, named by Bosworth as North Hempstead's finance director this week.

Also announced Monday, Bosworth named Elizabeth Dvorkin Botwin as town attorney and Nassau Legis. Robert Troiano as operations director.

All four appointments will be considered by the town board at its Jan. 2 meeting.

Bosworth says all her staff appointments, including the four named this week, will be fully funded by off-setting expenditure reductions within the 2014 town budget.

Inauguration is set for Jan. 5 in North Hempstead.
