Air Quality Alert in Nassau County

Best spots in Port to chill and breathe easier.

The extreme heat is not expected to let up until Friday. As temperatures hover at 95 degrees, the National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert. It's a signal that the vulnerable may be particularly sensitive in the heat during the next two days.

To help escape the high temperatures, the Town of North Hempstead suggests local cooling sites in Port Washington.

Due to the air quality alert, where there is a higher than usual pollutant level, people in Port Washington and elsewhere in Nassau County are advised to limit strenuous outdoor activity from 2-10 p.m. 

Those with asthma, heart conditions, and the elderly and the very young may experience adverse health effects when outdoors on Wednesday and Thursday.
