Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced that Nassau County will once again participate in Island Harvest’s 2nd Annual Make a Splash Food Drive Challenge.
The following County pools will be accepting non-perishable food items and monetary donations for the Make a Splash Food Drive Challenge through Aug. 12: Cantiague Park, Christopher Morley Park, Eisenhower Park Aquatic Center, Nickerson Beach Park, North Woodmere Park and Wantagh Park.
“It gives me great pleasure that Nassau County can once again participate in Island Harvest’s Make a Splash Food Drive Challenge,” said County Executive Mangano. “At a time when many individuals and families are struggling to put food on the table, the opportunity for residents to donate to a local organization, such as Island Harvest, helps motivate and increase donations to the fight against hunger.”
Last summer, County Executive Mangano accepted a trophy from Island Harvest on behalf of Wantagh Park Pool for collecting the most food out of all of the municipal pools during the 1st annual Island Harvest Make a Splash Food Drive Challenge. Donations at Wantagh Pool reached over 600 pounds, the equivalent of approximately 469 meals. Together, Long Island’s communities and pools collected over 6,900 pounds of food, the equivalent of approximately 5,400 meals.
All proceeds from the Make a Splash Food Drive Challenge will assist in Island Harvest’s Food Rescue Operations and will provide critical food support to a network of 570 food pantries, soup kitchens and other local programs that offer food assistance to 283,700 Long Islanders – including 110,000 children – who face hunger every day.
