D'Amato: You've Got to Be A 'Jackass' to Vote Against Background Checks on Guns

 
Former Sen. Al D'Amato, before introducing Dina DeGiorgio in her campaign to run for North Hempstead town supervisor on Thursday, spoke about the Senate's defeat of a bid to expand background checks on gun purchases. 

At H on the Harbor in Port Washington, D'Amato said he was disappointed in both political parties, a reason why he supported DeGiorgio. He described her as a former Democrat from Port Washington who joined the Republican party, "where she had an opportunity to run" in 2011 for her current position as town councilwoman.
