From the Desk of Sen. Craig M. Johnson: Sign up for NorthShoreAlert

The programs helps Port Washington residents and businesses prepare for emergencies.

To the Editor,

This past March, the Port Washington-Manhasset Office of Emergency Management launched a very important initiative, the NorthShoreAlert mass notification system.

This program was designed to enhance region-wide communication and emergency preparedness. If you are a resident or a business in the Villages of North Hills, Munsey Park, Plandome Heights, Plandome, Plandome Manor, Flower Hill, Baxter Estates, Manorhaven, Port Washington North, Sands Point, or the unincorporated section of Port Washington, I to urge you to sign up for this service.

With NorthShoreAlert, any message regarding the safety of our community, from severe weather warnings and updates, to hazardous traffic or road conditions, could be disseminated using the NorthShoreAlert service.

This summer alone we've had unusually bad storms, as well as a West Nile Virus outbreak that led the county to conduct to nighttime pesticide sprayings with little notice.

Additionally, this service is a great resource for keeping up with local news and events.

By registering at NorthShoreAlert.org, time-sensitive voice messages from the your Village, Town, or Police/Fire Department will be sent to your home, cell, or business phone. You also have the option of receiving an alert via text message or e-mail.

I strongly encourage everyone to visit the website, www.NorthShoreAlert.org and register by providing your up-to-date contact information.

Very truly yours,

Craig M. Johnson

New York State Senator, 7th District
