State Sen. Jack Martins, R-Mineola, was back in Albany This week for the start of the 2013 Legislative Session after being reelected to office in November.
With his family standing by his side, Martins was sworn in for a second term by New York State Court of Appeals Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman on Jan. 9.
“It has been an honor to serve the residents of the Seventh Senate District," said Martins in a release Thursday. "I look forward to continuing to work hard as we move our state’s economy forward."
Martins said he is committed to working with the Senate and Gov. Andrew Cuomo to again pass a balanced state budget that does not raise any taxes and fees.
During the past two years, Martins supported passage of the property tax cap, cuts to state income tax rates for the middle class, elimination of the MTA Payroll Tax for small businesses, expansion of the DNA Databank, I-STOP legislation, and database tracking to prevent prescription drug abuse of narcotics.
Martins served as Mayor of the Village of Mineola for eight years before running for the Senate.
