Kaiman: 'Frustrated and Angered' About Power Restoration

Preparing for NorEaster that should hit Port Washington Wednesday afternoon.

Supervisor Jon Kaiman sent out this Reverse 311 message to all Town of North Hempstead residents who have working landlines Tuesday evening.

The Town of North Hempstead officials including myself and all of our Councilmembers as well as all of the village mayors and trustees throughout our town remain frustrated and angered by the delays we have been facing in getting power restored to our town residents.  We will continue to confront, challenge and demand that our utility do what is necessary to get this job done quickly and correctly.

I must also report to you tonight that we are now preparing for another storm that will hit us tomorrow afternoon.  A NorEaster will come through our area with sustained winds of 20 to 30 mile an hour with gusts up to 60 miles/hour during this fast moving storm which should peak tomorrow night.

Town comfort or warming centers will be open tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM and remain open until 9:00 PM or later depending on weather conditions. Town comfort centers are located in Westbury, New Hyde Park, Port Washington, Great Neck and Manhasset.  All town residents are welcome at any of our comfort centers.

Points of Distribution, or PODs, that provide water and ready to eat meals will be open from 9 a.m. tomorrow morning until 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.

While the Manhasset overnight shelter has been closed down, the county in conjunction with the Red Cross is planning on opening another overnight shelter tomorrow in North Hempstead located at the New Hyde Park High School.  The town will provide transportation from any of our warming centers to the overnight shelter upon request.

For all of our seniors or caregivers, North Hempstead’s Project Independence staff remain available to assist in any way that they can.

Please remember that today is election day and polls close at 9:00 PM tonight.

You may call 311 or go to our web site or Town of North Hempstead facebook page for further information.  Thank you.

if we are going to sell off our 40 spot lot why not advocate for the LIRR to chip in and helpRead More building the 2 or 3 story parking lot on Haven? with more trains and more population we need more parking. we are fooling ourselves that this is not a "Hicksville" type train station. we are a main hub and it needs a substantial parking lot that will help commuter parking and help retail parking in the main lots off of main street. anyone who does not want that parking lot built needs to really ask themselves why not. if we can build a new car wash on a main cut through street for no reason we can get this done with the same traffic nightmares!!! BTW during construction which im sure will take at least a year. where will those people park? in the other lots, so us who take the 808 train will get screwed bc we will not have a place to park now.

Apparently Ms. De Giorgio isn't aware that there already IS a "train depot" in PortRead More Washington. Thanks for the link, very interesting explanation of the LIRR's options. I was unaware that LIRR owned the West side lot which, as the article states, makes the question of yard expansion moot. It's going to happen. Ms. De Giorgio should stop posturing and start advocating for the best solution for Port residents within the limited choices.

Good spot for a multi-story municipal/LIRR garage, given the height of terrain behind it.

I agree. This lot should be open all the time. Maybe there is a potential liability issue butRead More let's see if it can be worked out.
