Kaiman to Step Down from Town Supervisor Post Early

Tuesday night's meeting will be the last for Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman, who will step down this month to assume a state position as special Long Island adviser with the New York Rising Community Reconstruction Program.

According to a Newsday report, Kaiman plans to issue a draft of the 2013-14 town budget to the board as one of his final acts before leaving.

As for stepping down in September, "time is of the essence with the project I'm doing with the governor," Kaiman told Newsday. "It really does require my immediate attention, so it is time."

Deputy town supervisor Christopher Senior will take over Kaiman's position but as a nonvoting acting supervisor. The town board can also appoint a new supervisor. Kaiman told Newsday that former town attorney John Riordan is being considered for the role until a new supervisor takes office in January.

Currently Nassau Legis. Judi Bosworth (D) and North Hempstead Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio (R) are running to become the next North Hempstead Supervisor.
