Kayak Run Set for July 21, Property Taxes Due

Happenings around North Hempstead.

The eighth annual Manhasset Bay Kayak Run is set for Saturday, July 21. 

Starting at the North Hempstead’s , the event requires participants to paddle at their own pace to as many designated locations as possible around Manhasset Bay, where they collect raffle tickets. The more locations on the bay participants go to, the more raffle tickets they receive to win prizes.

To participate, pick up and complete a registration forms at the Town Dock, , or , all in Port Washington.

Registration forms can also be downloaded from the Town of North Hempstead’s website and dropped off at Atlantic Outfitters.

All are welcome, and no experience is necessary. Those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must wear an approved personal flotation device. Discounted kayak rentals will be available at Atlantic Outfitters. Kayaks may be launched from the Town Dock, , Inspiration Wharf, and anywhere else you have access to the Bay.

Property Taxes Due 

North Hempstead property owners, take note: the second-half 2012 general tax is now due and payable without penalty through August 10.

Mailed payments must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service on or before August 10 to avoid penalty.  Taxes may be paid in person at the Receiver of Taxes Office at 200 Plandome Road in Manhasset.  The office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.  The tax office will remain open until 7 p.m. on August 10 .

Property taxes may also be paid online by credit card or check (ACH) on the Receiver of Taxes’ webpage at: www.northhempsteadny.gov/taxes.

Taxpayers may contact the Town’s “311” call center for additional information or to request a duplicate tax bill (516-869-6311 if you are outside of the Town).  Further information is also available on the Town’s website at:www.northhempsteadny.gov.

New Commissioner in North Hempstead

Caisy Meyers has been appointed commissioner of North Hempstead’s Department of Services for the Aging (DOSA)-Project Independence, which aims to helping the growing senior population age in place.   

Previously, Meyers served as deputy chief of staff for the Town of North Hempstead. She was a driving force in Project Independence during its formative period of Project Independence, having served as its original director.
