Labate Team Decides Against Recount

Labate said he is withdrawing from the Republican race to unseat Rep. Steve Israel in New York's Third Congressional District.

Stephen Labate, the candidate who vied for the Republican seat for New York’s third congressional district, announced Monday that he is dropping the recount effort against Grant Lally.

Lally, who defeated Labate by 11 votes in the Republican primary in June, will go on to run against Rep. Steve Israel in the November election

Calling the win a “razor thin margin,” Labate said in a statement, “I have decided not to pursue a recount.  A prolonged legal battle would be damaging to the Republican Party and would only benefit Congressman Steve Israel.”
