Longtime Port North Village Trustee Retires

Schenkler, who has served as a trustee since 2004, was presented a proclamation at a meeting Jan. 9 by Mayor Bob Weitzner who declared the day Michael Schenkler Day in the village. 

"It has been a decade filled with challenge, service, stress, joy, accomplishment and camaraderie," said Schenkler at the retirement ceremony. "I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Village. I am grateful to you, the other Trustees I’ve worked with, the staff and the residents of Port North, for one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I have ever had."

Matthew Kepke has been appointed by Weitzner to fill the remainder of Schenkler’s term of office which ends in March of 2015.

Kepke, an attorney and resident of the Village since 2005, has served as Communications Commissioner for the Village for the past year, according to village officials. 

Trustee Steven Cohen was appointed by Weitzner to serve as deputy mayor to fill out the remainder of Schenkler’s term until April 2014.
