Meeting Date Set on PSEG Power Lines

PSEG to present information at Harbor Links in Port Washington.

PSEG Long Island will present information about a new power line installation project at a meeting at the Harbor Links Clubhouse in Port Washington on Monday, March 24, at 7 p.m., a Town of North Hempstead spokesman told Patch.

The project comprises a five-mile overhead transmission line between Great Neck and Port Washington, according to Newsday.

In assessing customer demand, PSEG reliability engineers determined that there was a critical need for new transmission circuits to reliably serve customers now, Jeffrey Weir, a PSEG Long Island Spokesman, told Patch.

Still, Port Washington residents have expressed outrage over the utility pole installation, already visible on Port Washington Blvd.

"What in G-d's name is happening to Port Boulevard??? These GIANT sequoia-sized monstrosities are sprouting each day!" wrote John Meyer, on a Patch Speak Out Board.

"Don't you think it's time to bury the cables?" replied another reader.

Both overhead and underground cables were considered, but in working with local municipalities, the above-ground poles were determined to be "most reliable" while also considering "the impact to the entire rate base," Weir said.

Both North Hempstead and Residents for A More Beautiful Port Washington officials have reached out to PSEG Long Island, noting that community members want answers to their concerns about the project.

Residents will have the chance to learn more at information sessions at the March 24 meeting.
