Mineola Man Running for North Hempstead Clerk

The battle over the office of North Hempstead Town Clerk is now a three-way race after a Mineola resident has thrown his hat into the ring.

Resident Joseph Wood, proprietor of Monica’s Manor Inc., a non-profit that provides transitional housing for recovering addicts, will be running on the Conservative line after having secured enough signatures to be on the November 2013 ballot and was selected by a Committee to Fill Vacancies.

According to a Newsday report:

Another Conservative, Aquilas G. Mathew, had secured enough petitions to qualify but recently withdrew, said William Biamonte, Nassau Democratic elections commissioner. There was no challenge filed, Biamonte said, so the substitution is valid.
Wood said that his primary objective is to eliminate "waste" from the town.

Incumbent Leslie Gross will be running on the Republican line after having switched parties. She is being challenged by former Nassau Legislator Wayne Wink, a Democrat, whose legislative district was redrawn due to redistricting.
