Benatar Concert to Benefit Hurricane Victims
Lindenhurst's own Pat Benatar is helping out her hometown. Benatar and her husband, Neil Giraldo, will perform a Hurricane Sandy Relief Benefit Concert at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury on Friday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m., according to officials at Live Nation (Ticketmaster)
CEO Exits Catholic Health Services
Catholic Health Services of Long Island has replaced president and CEO Lawrence McManus after eight months on the job, according to media reports. McManus was appointed to the position in April 2012, succeeding Richard Sullivan, Jr. Sullivan Jr., 62, returns to CHS as president and CEO. CHS provided no reason for McManus' departure, according to ModernHealthcare.com.
Construction Company to Pay Employees $100,000
Nine employees who worked on an environmental improvement public works project at Stannards Brook Park in Port Washington will receive back wages of $100,895 from a Copiague construction company. The company, Tri-Rail Construction, pleaded guilty to felony criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, Nassau County prosecutors said Thursday. As a condition of the plea, the company must now pay back wages of $100,895 to those nine employees in adddition to a $5,000 fine. The company must also pay $15,000 to Nassau County to cover the cost of the investigation.
Town Acquires Great Neck Arts Center
The Town of North Hempstead board voted Tuesday night to acquire the Great Neck Arts Center's facility to the tune of $800,000. Supervisor Jon Kaiman explained that the center will become the Gold Coast Arts Center and that the acquisition for $800,000 is for a $3 million building. The Town is acquiring a 4,800 square-foot condo and a 5,200 square-foot condo.
Construction has already begun on a new roof for the Long Island Ducks’ hurricane-damaged ballpark even as Suffolk County Legislators await a vote on funding the fix. The roof of the 6,000-seat Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip is nearly 13 years old and was in need of repair before the storm, according to Suffolk Legis. Rick Montano, D-Brentwood. Just three weeks after the independent baseball team clinched the second Atlantic League championship in franchise history, Sandy tore through the region and damaged the stadium roof, which hangs over several sections of seating. Montano is co-sponsoring a resolution to allocate $600,000 from the facility’s capital improvement fund for the repair. The budget committee approved the move. It should go to a vote next Tuesday.
Former Patient Gives Back to Hospital That Saved Her
A team of doctors at Stony Brook University Hospital saved her life not once, not twice, but six times – and now, Carin Navratil has found a way to give back to the hospital that saved her life. The Farmingville resident was 22 years old when she suffered what doctors believed was at least one blood clot that had gotten into her lungs, causing her to lose lung and heart function.Now, Navratil now works as a volunteer in the respiratory unit.
Trustee Appointed to S. Huntington School Board
The South Huntington Board of Education appointed PTA Council president Laura Carey Wednesday night to complete the unexpired term of Assemb.-elect Chad Lupinacci. Carey, who has two children in the district, is in her second year as council president. Lupinacci will take office in January as the representative of the 10th Assembly District. He was elected in November to fill the seat left vacant by the death of James Conte.
