A Midnight Ceremony

North Hempstead Town Clerk Leslie Gross officiated at one of New York's first same-sex marriage ceremonies. Francisco Fuertes and Patrick Simeone of Westbury were married at midnight on Sunday, July 24, at the Mary Jane Davies Park Gazebo in Manhasset. . 

May Newburger Honored

Former North Hempstead Town May Newburger was honored at a Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, July 19. The Town paid tribute to her career by renaming Fairway Drive, the street leading to Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington, as May Newburger Way. . 

White House Suburban Summit

Supervisor Jon Kaiman is back from Washington, DC, where he attended a White House suburban summit – First Suburbs, Sustainability, Inclusion and Economic Growth – as an invited guest. He also met with federal legislators to discuss securing funding for programs that serve North Hempstead.

He returned hopeful about acquiring money for the town and also with information about suburban issues, including unemployment, affordable housing, decaying infrastructure and traffic congestion.

Tax Seminars for Seniors

Receiver Charles Berman has announced that on Aug. 11 the Town will hold a tax seminar for seniors. The seminar will focus on tax exemptions for seniors.
