North Hempstead Notebook: Spooky Week, Social Media, Flu Shots

Happenings around the town.

Halloween is almost here, and in the , that means the advent of Spooky Week.

That's when zombies, ghosts, ghouls, goblins, swamp monsters and some gruesome buddies will rise up one last time, prompting screams on the 12-acre, smog-shrouded Zombie Containment Facility, which at all other times of the year is known as Clark Botanic Garden.

The event, which may not be suitable for young children, takes place 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct 27, Friday Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct 29. Entry fee is $5.

There's also a Not-so-Spooky Walk —suitable for children of all ages—takes place Sunday Oct. 30 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. The entry fee is $3. For more information, call 311, or 516-869-6311. Or visit the town’s Facebook page

Project Independence Offers Flu Shots

The town is partnering with to make seasonal flu vaccine available free of charge to all North Hempstead residents age 60 or older.

Westbury: Thursday, October 20th – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Magnolia Gardens Residences Community Room 899 Broadway, Westbury

Port Washington: Friday October 21st – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Port Washington Community Center 80 Manorhaven Boulevard, Port Washington

Great Neck: Wednesday, October 26th – 12-3 p.m. Great Neck Senior Center 80 Grace Avenue, Great Neck

New Hyde Park: Thursday, October 27th – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 1601 Marcus Avenue, New Hyde Park

Roslyn: Monday, October 31st – 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sid Jacobson JCC 300 Forest Drive, East Hills
