North Hempstead Notebook: Town Address, India Association and Vows

Happenings around the town.

Join Supervisor Jon Kaiman on Jan. 25 at the clubhouse at in Port Washington where he will deliver the State of The Town address. The event is hosted by the League of Women Voters of Port Washington-Manhasset. 

To attend the full program, which includes lunch, register at 11:45 a.m. Lunch, ($30 in advance, $35 at the door) will be served at noon.

RSVPs for the full luncheon are requested by Jan. 19. To pay in advance, make check payable to LWV Port Washington-Manhasset and send to: Caisy Meyers, Deputy Chief of Staff, Town Hall, 220 Plandome Rd., Manhasset, NY 11030.

The public is invited to attend the address, scheduled for 1:15 p.m., free of charge.

New India Association of Long Island board

Town officials installed the newly-elected board of the India Association of Long Island at Town Hall on Thursday.

Newly-installed president, Dr. Sukhvinder Ranu, a neonatologist at King County Hospital Center in Brooklyn and a resident of Garden City Park, vowed to continue honing the mission of the 32-year-old, non-profit organization to promote, share and celebrate the culture of India and foster a better understanding of the diversity and heritage of the Indian subcontinent.

Ranu aims to focus on changing the organization's constitution to better serve current needs, as well as build a community center.

Valentines Day Marriage Vow Renewal ceremony

Kaiman, Town Clerk Leslie Gross, the North Hempstead Town Board announce the 3rdAnnual Valentines Day Marriage Vow Renewal ceremony at Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington.

The event is part of the town’s commitment to help seniors live healthy, active and engaged lives as members of their community.

Approximately 70 couples from across the Town who have been married for 50 years or more are expected to recommit themselves to each other at the February 14 ceremony themed “Over the Years, Flying High.”

The celebration begins at 11 a.m., followed by a lunch to honor the couples who retied the knot and shared some insights on their personal formula for long-lasting marriages.
