Port North to LIPA: Timetable is Unacceptable

The village strives to expedite repairs.

Friday is too long to wait for restored power. That’s the message from the to the Long Island Power Authority.

Mayor Bob Weitzner sent a message to residents in the village at 4:22 p.m. Monday stating: “Village officials are well aware that many of our residents are without power since Sunday morning. Repeated calls to LIPA did not produce any timetable for restoring power.”

The message continued: “Unfortunately, we just received word directly from LIPA officials that the best estimate for power restoration is by Friday or sooner. Our village does not accept this timetable and we will continue doing everything in our power to expedite repairs.”

The village is urging senior residents without power to contact the Town of North Hempstead’s Project Independence. The program is offering free taxi service to relocate senior residents to another location within North Hempstead. The program also provides transportation for grocery shopping on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. To learn more, call 311 for information on the program or to sign up for services.

Thank you, Bob. Fortunately, we have power, but I wanted to take this opportunity to let the people of Port Washington know that Mayor Bob and his colleagues in Port North have done an amazing job of staying on top of LIPA and attempting to get service improved all over the peninsula.

Thank you Mayor Weitzner. Many of us still have no power. We appreciate your putting pressure on LIPA to get us our electricity back before Friday. Now let's hope for a miracle!!!!

Brian, that was fortunate that you received power, but as of today LIPA officials say they are still restoring power to Port North, which both the LIPA power outage map and the comment below speak to. So, the final result is still a work in progress.

Particularly out of line since it's a shared-use puddle for camp groups splashing, not a good poolRead More venue for individuals swimming.

The TONH should be under some investigation for charging such a high fee for a very short summerRead More season. You lose most of june and the pool closes in early September. Better off paying as you go just purchase the parking permit which is good at the Manorhaven Pool and the Harbor beach. Stop buying a season pass in protest to the yearly excessive price increase.

And speaking of investigations, what's up with Jonny's Roslyn CC fiasco?

Contact the Village and the water district, it's probably a problem with a pipe on your street.
