Port Parking Committee Forming

First meeting set for September 24 at Port Washington Library.

Town of North Hempstead Councilwoman Dina DeGiorgio is seeking community-wide input in tackling the "long overdue problem" of parking in the town of Port Washington, according to a press release from DeGirgio.

The lawmaker recently mailed letters to the mayors of the Port Washington villages, along with local civic groups and businesses, to create a parking committee effective this September.

According to DeGiorgio, the Port Washington Parking Committee will have its first meeting on Tuesday, September 24 at the Port Washington Library. The meeting will begin at 8 p.m.

A recent survey of train commuters in the town showed many could not find parking at or near the LIRR station on Main Street. Aside from the general need for less congestion and more parking spaces, the town must now deal with the impending LIRR Expansion project and a possible loss in more spaces.
