Protest Expected at Town Board Meeting Tuesday

North Hempstead mulling options regarding euthanasia of large population of geese.

Animal rights groups are expected to oppose at a North Hempstead town board meeting Tuesday a plan to remove Canada geese from parks by euthanizing them, according to Newsday.

According to the report, the town is attempting to deal with about 600 geese that eat grass in town parks and foul waterways and fields with droppings. The town approved last month carbon monoxide as the method of euthanasia for the birds.

Advocacy groups call the proposal "monstrous," according to Newsday.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in Manhasset. Get full agendahere.
