Rebates Available for Storm-Damaged Appliances

State program offers funds for high-efficiency replacements.

Residents who buy high-efficiency appliances to replace items damaged by Hurricane Irene or Tropical Storm Lee are eligible for a state rebate program.

The money is available through the New York Energy Research and Development Authority, to help pay for Energy Star or other high-efficiency appliances, ranging from dehumidifiers to furnaces.

NYSERDA spokeswoman Dayle Zatlin says each family is allotted a maximum of $3,850 to replace appliances.

In announcing the $8-million program, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano said, “I commend New York State for taking the appropriate steps in helping our residents get back on their feet after the damaging effects of both Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee,” said County Executive Mangano.  “It is imperative that we do everything we can to get this money out to those in need.”
