Sweeping Rains Prompt Road Closures in Port Washington

Harbor Road, Mill Pond Road and parts of Shore Road affected.

A band of heavy thunderstorms swept across the North Shore of Long Island just before noon Friday, bringing torrential rain and causing flash flooding. 

The National Weather Service radar showed a heavy band of thunder showers sweeping across Long Island Sound and stretching northward towards Connecticut. 

Port Washington North Emergency Management sent out the following alert.

Please do not drive unless you need to. Due to the heavy rain Harbor Rd, Mill Pond Rd, parts of Shore Rd, and Old shore Rd are closed. There are also flooded areas on Cow Neck Rd and West Shore Rd. Please stay away from these areas as Police and emergency equipment need to have full accress.
