Second Port Resident Joins Assessment Team

Group is tasked with leadership role in county-wide assessment reform.

The man tapped to run County Executive Ed Mangano's Assessment Review Team (ART), Patrick Foye of Sands Point has added fellow Port resident and Tom Suozzi-era official Thaddeus "Ted" Jankowski to the team.

Jankowski is a hold-over from the Suozzi administration; he was appointed Nassau County Assessor by the former county executive in January 2009. Jankowski was Nassau's first appointed assessor, previously the role was an elected position.

"The county executive recognizes the importance of Mr. Jankowski's experience and will need all the assistance available to revamp the assessment system that is crushing Nassau County," said Michael Martino, Mangano's press secretary.

Jankowski spent nine years as Boston's Commissioner of Assessing and has worked for other New England municipalities including Portsmouth, N.H., Newton, Mass. and Worcester, Mass.

Jankowski joins the group of residential and commercial property owners comprising the AFT; the group is slated to submit a report of recommendations to Mangano by June 2010.

In related developments, Foye announced he has left Long Island's largest law firm Rivkin Radler to focus on his short-term volunteer role in the Mangano Administration, as its newly appointed AFT Executive Director.

Saying he "couldn't say no" to the county executive, Foye added he was "excited by the opportunity to be part of the solutions that the Mangano Administration formulates." Tax assessment reform was a centerpiece of Mangano's successful campaign in unseating Suozzi.

Foye's departure from Rivkin Radler marks the second departure for the firm; County Executive Mangano severed his ties with the firm December 31, 2009 before he was sworn into office in January.
