Storm Response Underway in North Hempstead

Approximately 100 vehicles being used to clear snow from town roadways.

The Town of North Hempstead announced Tuesday that storm response efforts are well underway while warnig residents to remain cautious.

The Town's Highway Department deployed trucks to salt and sand roads throughout North Hempstead beginning 7 a.m. and began plowing at 1 p.m., according to highway department officials.

Approximately 100 vehicles were out plowing the roads to prepare for the morning commute during the evening and into the morning, according to a press release form town officials Tuesday afternoon.

Supervisor Judi Bosworth is reminding residents to remove their parked cars from the streets to help plows remove snow effectively and efficiently from the roadways, while encouraging residents to stay off the roads.

"If you must travel, please exercise extreme caution when taking to the roads," said Bosworth in the press release.

North Hempstead is prepared to open fully staffed warming centers with coffee, tea and snacks at various facilities if necessary, contingent upon whether residents experience power outages.

North Hempstead's 311 Call Center will be extending their hours tonight.  In addition, a redundancy location for 311 is already set up at Town Hall in Manhasset to provide coverage in the event of a power failure.
