Tell Us: Soundview Theater

What advice do you have for the entrepreneurs wanting to open it?

Jordan and Dara Desner have had a lease for the movie theater at the Soundview Marketplace since February.

They'd first hoped to have the theater opened by Memorial Day, and then by end of August, but because the shopping center , the lease is contingent on Nassau County Supreme Court approval.

The couple had expected to hear the court's decision in early June. Now they're hoping they can open in time for the .

What advice do you have for the Desners? Tell us in the comments.

Cleanliness in theatres and restrooms is important. Clearview did a poor job of this and it should be easy to do better. Stadium seating in at least one theatre would be nice. I look forward to the grand opening so I will no longer need to drive to Westbury for a pleasant movie experience. The local Clearview theatres (Pt Wash, Roslyn) are dumps! Steve G.

Try to get the assistance of govt officials like Wayne Wink to facilitate Court approval of this lease.

I can't wait to go once you open. Especially if it's Refurbished with new digital projection. I hope the current owners of this commercial property change over and we have more business move in.

I always wanted to have flexible space Live music, local theatre, digital projection Moveable "air walls " Movies theatres as we knew are dead. Microwave the popcorn, turn on your 60" LED. Download your favorite movie in 7.1 sound . Your own home, bathroom and terms for a lot less mOney

Dara & Jordan, hang in there! The prior suggestion of enlisting help is a good one, but realistically, since it's a bankrupcy situation you need the legal advice appropriate to that court to help substantiate the dollars and cents of the financial benefit to approving the application. As for the facility itself, I believe you already have some experience there, so it's a matter of winning over the local community. The competition will present the biggest challenge on their 'free' Tuesdays and the discounts offered. Price yourself fairly, make concessions reasonable and be a part of the community. Many of us still want to deal local and appreciate merchants who are a part of the town. Good Luck! I'm looking forward to your opening and your success.

It was a great theatre; hopefully it'll be back soon. Good luck to the new owners.

First, they should tear down the silly little building in front of the theatre. A little landscaping in the brickwork might go far. Don't chop up the theatre space too much as well since a couple of the theatres in the Main Street theatre are so small, I might as well just watch at home. Digital projection will be key.

If I remember correctly you have five theaters. Consider dedicating one or two of the theaters for special interest groups, e.g. old classics, sci-fi, Academy Award winners, marathons, etc. On Tuesdays drop the price to $5 to offset local Clearview free Tuesday. We gave up on Clearview’s “mooch night” since you had to get there at least a half hour early in order to get in. Good luck.

Great idea from Charles.....dedicating one or two theatres for special interest groups might go a long way in building community interest and participation. Oh, for Casablanca, Bette Davis and all the growing up memories of many of us... Yes, the best of luck in your venture..... Jack

Keep movies in the theater longer then two weeks as we often miss movies which played too briefly at tghe Clearview theater. I look forward to theater with great projection the last movie we saw at the Clearview looked as if it was ages old. Theater was also in need of better regulating the A/C. Looking forward to your opening and agree that you need a great banckrupcy lawyer and some local politicians might help expidite maters.

Thanks for hanging in. The courts and local government have been no help. Things like this movie theater only benefit this town. Wishing the two of you the best of luck.
