Today: Port Washington Solar Panel Plan Public Hearing

Town Hall public hearing set for 7:30 p.m. in Manhasset.

The Town of North Hempstead will discuss at a special meeting today a proposal to place solar panels on two landfills located off West Shore Road in Port Washington.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the Town Hall public hearing scheduled at 7:30 p.m.

According to town officials, benefits of the project include renewable energy promotion and the alleged reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The anticipated amount of greenhouse gas emissions needed to construct and maintain the project remains unclear.

Revenue from the solar project would be provided in the form of site lease payments for a 20-year period, according to the town.

With the Jan. 31 PSEG Long Island’s solar energy program application deadline approaching, residents will be granted the opportunity to comment and ask questions prior to a town board vote on the proposal.

An information session was held Jan. 8 at Harbor Links Golf Course by Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio and Supervisor Judi Bosworth.
