Filming in North Hempstead; Bids for New Kennels at Shelter

Highlights from the Town's latest meeting.

If you missed Tuesday's meeting, here are some of the highlights:

  • A public hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 12 regarding the site plan of 2020 Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park.
  • A public hearing about the car repair shop at 163 Hericks Road in Garden City Park will be held on Oct. 2.
  • The Town board approved of holding a public hearing about the Great Neck water pollution control district's facilities on Sept. 12.
  • A public hearing about filming in the Town will be held on Sept. 12. Supervisor Jon Kaiman noted that the Town's rules have been somewhat restrictive in the past.
  • There will be a public hearing about a no parking restriction in Great Neck from the Queens border and spanning about 90 feet southeast to Nassau Road on Sept. 12.
  • A public hearing discussing removing a no parking designation on Hillside Avenue in New Hyde Park and potentially changing 30 minute parking to 90 minute parking has been set for Sept. 12.
  • The Town board approved of setting a public hearing on Sept. 12 about making full stop restrictions near Hillside Boulevard and White Avenue.
  • The Town board approved a measure to advertise for bids for getting rid of the current kennels at the Town of North Hempstead animal shelter and replacing them with new ones. Councilwoman Dina DeGiorgio noted that the existing kennels are about 40 years old and "need replacement."
  • The board approved of waiving some filming guidelines for the Food Network to film at Haven Grill. The regulation was that crews cannot film for more than three straight days.
  • John Riordan has been named as the new Town attorney replacing Richard Finkel.
