Town, Port Rowing to Clean Up Shoreline

Volunteers will remove debris left over from Hurricane Sandy.

At least 50 athletes from Port Rowing, along with members of the Town of North Hempstead and other community volunteers are gathering Saturday at 11 a.m. to clean up "May Newburger Cove," the section formerly known as Hempstead Harbor at North Hempstead Beach Park.

This section of the shoreline still contains debris from Hurricane Sandy. The waste is currently littering the shoreline, as well as inhibiting plant and foliage growth that would boost the health of the shoreline ecosystem.

The town invited volunteers from Port Rowing to help restore the shoreline as part of its commitment to the environment. The cleanup is expected to take several hours.
