Job Well Done

On the Fire Line

The roaring wildfires threatening Suffolk County this week have been extinguished. Although the threat of new wildfires still exist across Long Island, this immediate threat was met head on by the well coordinated efforts of state and county emergency management services.

On the fire lines were the men and women of the various volunteer fire departments and emergency medical service units from across Suffolk County, with some support from Nassau County departments, who once again unselfishly answered the call to duty. The efforts of these dedicated men and women, who put themselves in harms way, stopped the inferno, saved lives and protected property, all in the line of duty. Being volunteers, the majority of these heroes most likely went home, showered, got some rest and then went to work.

Long Island is most fortunate to have such a dedicated volunteer fire and EMS service. Their work goes on day and night, 24/7 without much recognition, and to little appreciation, except in cases such as an uncontrolled wildfire. May this be the last of the wildfires.
