Wishing A Friend A Good Trip

Leaving for Rome

This morning I had the honor to be invited to Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in Manhattan celebrated by His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan.

His Eminence will be departing for Rome this evening to be with Pope Benedict in his final days as spiritual leader of the world's Catholics. Cardinal Dolan, along with his brother Cardinals, will remain in Rome after Pope Benedict's official resignation date on Feb. 28, for the main purpose of electing a new Pope. Cardinal Dolan was relaxed in his demeanor and remarks and was spiritually ready to carry out the awesome responsibility he has to discharge as a Cardinal. He asked for the prayers of those in attendance and assured us that we will be in his prayers while he is in Rome.

So what do you say to a guy that is going to Rome to elect the new Pope? I wished him a good trip and hoped to see him again at Easter. Then it dawned on me that should Cardinal Dolan be elected Pope, he would not be coming back to New York anytime soon.
