A Fun Run at Manorhaven Elementary School

A fitness event for students in grades 3-5.

Tuesday was the Manorhaven Milers Fun Run at Manorhaven Elementary School, and students seemed to give it their all.

Through a two-mile course, third, fourth and fifth grade students ran or walked eight laps around the school field, stopping for water breaks as needed. Afterwards, they enjoyed healthy snacks, celebrating a job well done.

The event was the culmination of an eight-week program made possible through a $2,500 ING Run For Something Better School Awards grant. The program is designed to help promote health and fitness and conquer child obesity, through the leadership of a facilitator. Megaera Regan, the physical education teacher at Manorhaven, said the program also enabled students to recieve shirts, numbers and chips to track their time on the computer.

Students who want to enter the also have their entry fees covered.

"At this point we have about 37 kids that have taken advantage of that," Regan said.

has supplied a grant to fourth and fifth graders in all five elementary schools in the district who wish to run in the "Turkey Trot."

This is the second year that Manorhaven has received the grant from ING.

Too bad she doesn't view the UNSIGHTLY MASSIVE SCAM OVERLAY DISTRICT THAT WILL RUIN THE CHARACTER OFRead More THE TOWN with the same disdain as most of her constituents: "...De Giorgio, a Republican who announced her bid for supervisor last month, said the proposals amount to creating an unsightly storage yard in Port Washington. "The idea of storing these massive trains, adding two storage tracks to Port Washington, will completely ruin the character of the town," she said. "This is creating a train depot in Port Washington..."
