Eighteen Schreiber High School seniors have been named Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Nearly 34,000 Commended Students are being recognized nationally for their exceptional academic promise.
The list of Schreiber Commended Students includes: Jennifer Barshay, Nicole Boyd, Matthew Brandes, Elliot Catalano, Joseph Finkelstein, Sydney Heiden, Zachary Herron, Jacob Hirsch, Sungan Huh, Annie Kim, Sungmi Kim, Arjuna Lal, Stephanie Lee, Brian Leibowitz, Nisha Nanda, Jackson Shain, Avanti Shroff and Alexandra Zwiener.
“These young men and women have distinguished themselves as scholars and are exemplary members of the Schreiber school community," said Schreiber Principal Ira Pernick.
Although they will not continue in the 2013 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Kathleen A. Mooney, superintendent of schools, added, “I am excited that our students have attained this honor and serve as such fine ambassadors of the Port Washington School District."
