The New American Collection at the Met

The New American Collection at the Met. Vivian Gordon will discuss The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection of American art, one of the finest and most comprehensive in the world, which returned to view in expanded, reconceived and dramatic new galleries in January 2012. This illustrated talk will provide an introduction to the history of American painting, from early colonial portraits through 20th-century works. Included will be famous images of George Washington, Hudson River School landscapes and some of the most popular paintings by Winslow Homer, Thomas Eakins, Mary Cassatt and John Singer Sargent.
