Gambol: A Community Tradition for Schreiber Grads

Unlike most high school seniors across Long Island who participated in traditional proms this week, those who graduate from Schreiber High School take part in a tradition that's a little different. The Gambol, which first took place at Schrieber High School in 1952, has been a rite of passage for high school seniors in Port Washington for close to 60 years.

Supported by fundraising events and donations from parents of Schreiber High School seniors as well as local businesses and residents, Castle Gould at the Sands Point Preserve was transformed to fit this year's theme, Illusion, for Gambol 2010.

The public was invited to view the transformation on Friday before the seniors and their dates walked the red carpet and took part in an evening of fun, dancing and food.

Patch stopped by to see what all the fuss was about, and Gambol surely lived up to its billing.
