Mooney's new role as interim superintendent will begin just one month after New York State’s Dignity for All Students Act takes effect. At Tuesday's school board meeting at , Mooney, currently the assistant superintendent for human resources and general administration, brought the board up to speed on the law. She said she would provide any further updates and revisions to the new law when the board meet next on Aug. 7.

Board President Karen Sloan said that she has "no doubt" that Mooney will help the district to navigate this transition well.
