Johnson: 'Very Exciting to be Elected'

Nora Johnson on her upcoming spot on the Port Washington School Board.

Patch checked in with , who was the  Tuesday. Here is what she said:

Patch: What do you hope to accomplish and/or contribute while serving as a trustee?

Nora Johnson: I'm a nurse and a lawyer, a designer and an HSA president, and of course a mom. I believemy diverse experience, insight and compassion will be an asset in my work with fellow trustees, the Administration, the teachers, and the Community and that together we can find solutions to the many challenges we face.

Patch: Is there an issue in the Port schools that you find particularly important?

Johnson: [Four] days ago I thought that the biggest issue going forward is maintaining and improving our tradition of educational excellence for all students and preparing them for the 21st century in a very difficult economy burdened by unfunded mandates. With the announcement of Dr.Gordon's retirement, I would add that part of that challenge is going to be finding a successor with outstanding leadership skills, vision, and passion for education and this community.

Patch: What are you looking forward to as a member of the board of education?

Johnson: The opportunity to serve on the Board of Education is a great honor and it's very exciting to be elected. My kids are among my biggest supporters. I'm thrilled that they are so proud of their mom and understand my commitment. I'm looking forward to listening and learning about the issues and making informed decisions as an active member of a team that plays such an important role in the education of everyone's children and the growth of our community.
