Legislative Breakfast Set for Saturday to Address Mounting School Issues

Public is invited to discuss "Common Core," high-stakes testing and taxes next Saturday.

Concerned members of two area school districts will host a "Legislative Breakfast" Saturday to address a range of controversial issues facing public schools.

The issues to be addressed included high-stakes testing, the implementation of "Common Core," the so-called "tax cap" and cuts in state aid to school districts.

Organizers from Plainview and Syosset say the 9:30 a.m. breakfast Saturday, Feb. 1, which is open to the public, is a chance to address those issues directly with legislative officials at the state and federal level. Expected to attend are:

  • Congressman Steve Israel
  • State Senator Carl Marcellino
  • State Senator John J. Flanagan
  • Assemblyman Charles Lavine

The event, to be held at the Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School,  50 Kennedy Drive in Plainview is hosted by the Plainview-Old Bethpage PTA Council, Plainview Congress of Teachers, the Plainview ASA (Administrators, Supervisors Association.) the Syosset Council of PTAs, the Syosset Teachers Association, Syosset Principals Association and the Syosset Administrative Assistants Association.

Space is Limited. Organizers ask that you RSVP immediately by emailing your name, district and school  to rsvplegislativebreakfast@gmail.com

A continental breakfast will be served.
