Shannon Oliver to promote diversity awareness.

Miss New York will speak Wednesday at three Port Washington schools to promote diversity awareness.

As part of a new partnership between CITGO and the Miss New York Organization, Shannon Oliver will host “Fueling Good Day” at John Philip Sousa Elementary School, Carrie Palmer Weber Middle School and Manorhaven Elementary School.

Oliver will speak to students about the importance of diversity awareness in helping future generations eradicate bullying and break stereotypes.

The school visits will include interactive “Stand Up If” assembly-style and classroom presentations aimed at helping future generations eradicate bullying and break stereotypes, while promoting education and the value of giving back to the community.presentations, where students are asked to stand when a descriptive sentence relates to them, showing students that they often have experiences in common with classmates outside of their friend group.

There will be two morning talks for First through Fifth-graders at Sousa and for Sixth and Seventh-graders at Palmer Weber. One assembly is planned for Manorhaven Fourth and Fifth-graders.

CITGO will also give teachers an opportunity to participate in the new CITGO Fueling Education Promotion in which they could win $1,000 in school supplies for their classrooms through ClassWish.
