The Concert Band and the Elementary School Band opened the season at the on Sunday.
Schreiber Band Director Mark Brenner announced that the concert band recently scored a Gold Rating at the NYSSMA Major Ensemble Festival held at Hofstra University. On Sunday, the concert band performed one of the pieces it performed at the festival, Alex Lithgow’s “Invercargill March” (see video).
The concert band took to the stage after several numbers were performed by the all district band, whose members had worked all year with conductors Aaron Prindle, Elizabeth Andrew and John Aikos.
Now in its 46th season, the Sousa Bandshell will host concerts Fridays at 8:15 p.m. through Aug. 24. This Friday is the LIU Post Symphonic Band, with Director James McRoy.
Brenner and the Port Washington Community Summer Concert Band will return to the bandshell Fridays in July.
