Port Washington Resident Joins Farmingdale State College

Award-winning writer Judy Epstein to work with college's institutional advancement.

Judy Epstein, a Port Washington resident, has joined Farmingdale State College's Office for Institutional Advancement.

An award-winning writer, Epstein previously worked in television news and documentaries – expertise she brings to her new position at Farmingdale. Her more recent experience includes both writing and editing at the Anton Community Newspapers.

After earning a BA cum laude in Philosophy from Yale, Epstein worked for two years at WNET with Robert MacNeil and Jim Lehrer at the "MacNeil/Lehrer Report" (now "Newshour"). She then worked more than 10 years with Bill Moyers, working on such series as "Bill Moyers’ Journal," "A Walk Through the 20th Century" and "Healing & The Mind." She also served as a producer and coordinating producer for Moyers’ nightly series "A World of Ideas," where one of her episodes was nominated for an Emmy. In addition, she was producer and co-writer with Bill Moyers on his 20-year retrospective, Listening to America.”

Epstein also wrote news copy for WPIX-TV as well as pledge and promo copy for WNET. In addition, she packaged independent films for PBS’ "P.O.V." series; and edited cooking shows for Lifetime Cable. Her on-air promotion spots won recognition from both PBS and The Writers Guild.

Recognized also for her work in print, Epstein created two humor columns, "Humor Me" and "A Look On The Light Side," which between them have won seven media awards from the Press Club of Long Island, including three in first place. Many of Epsteins essays have been reprinted in anthologies, including in three editions of "Chicken Soup for the Soul."

Epstein, who grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, now lives in Port Washington with her husband and two sons. She is a member of the League of Women Voters, and a trustee of Port Jewish Center.
