Post-Sandy Update: Schools Closed Thursday, Friday

Police say travel is hazardous.

Due to the widespread power outages from Hurricane Sandy, the Port Washington schools will be closed Thursday and Friday. 

Port Washington Police District, Sands Point Police and Nassau County Police issued this statement: "Area conditions remain extremely dangerous. Do not touched downed wires. Do not touch trees entangled in wires. Traffic lights are not working. Travel is hazardous and not recommended." This information was provided by NorthShoreAlert.org. Police also urge families not to trick-or-treat. 

Power may not be fully restored to the Port Washington-Manhasset peninsula for seven days, commissioner of Port Washington-Manhasset Office of Emergency Services. 

The shelter at Schreiber High School is becomming a community center where residents can charge their wireless devices and warm up.
